HGI Counseling Center (Houston Galveston Institute)
The Houston Galveston Institute (HGI) is a non-profit organization, supported by donations and volunteers, that offers a unique method of collaborative counseling and postmodern therapy to individuals, families and communities of all socioeconomic backgrounds. We work with clients within a respectful, cooperative partnership that holds their ideas and expertise in high regard, and that encourages them to access their own natural resources and abilities to develop solutions to their problems.
Collaborative, Community Outreach
HGI’s collaborative efforts have resulted in response-driven programs such as the Rolling Conversations Project (a mobile mental health unit) that serves those living in Houston who have been impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
We also contract with numerous community agencies, including Harris County Domestic Relations Office (DRO), Office of Attorney General - Texas, and Communities in Schools, from which we receive many referrals. It is always our goal when working with agencies and referrals to foster and maintain a collaborative relationship in which the ideas and concerns of all parties are included in the therapy sessions.
HGI also provides various training programs for mental health professionals who want to develop a collaborative and postmodern approach to therapeutic work with individuals, couples, families, groups, organizations and community.
